The problem: More than 2 million websites make money with Google AdSense. Research showed they were struggling with sign-up and integration. So, how could we make it easier for users to connect their sites to start earning?
Two words on a button can make or break a user journey. Well-placed words must be effective, encouraging and engaging. And on a day-to-day basis, where we can, we seek to delight. To achieve this, it takes close collaboration with designers, product managers and Engineers. And of course, writing and rewriting until that text string pops.
We were looking to create a simple, seamless experience for Publishers who wanted to set up their sites quickly so they could focus on showcasing their content.
For AdSense as a whole, we were looking to reduce Publishers’ cognitive load through clever design backed by solid research and supported by clear messaging.
Time spent struggling to understand confusing instructions is precious time that could be monetising, or worse, it could be a reason for publishers to churn. And that’s why intentional UX writing is critical.
For Embedded Connect, we needed Publishers to perform specific actions to connect their sites to AdSense, so they required straightforward instructions.
Solution: Roll out a series of enhancements to simplify the onboarding process.
How I helped: I worked with Designers, Product Managers and Engineers on the copy for each stage of the user journey and also contributed to customer comms around account activation/deactivation.
